From a young age, Emily knew she had a passion for helping others to both cope with the mental health disorders that can hinder the pursuit of a healthy and balanced life, and learn to appreciate the qualities that make each of us unique. She has carried this passion with her through all aspects of her life, including her education, research, and career.
Emily received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Miami. As an undergraduate, Emily conducted research for the University of Miami Department of Psychology studying the brain, behavior, and interpersonal relationships. After graduating, Emily worked in the Brain and Behavior Laboratory in the Neuropsychiatry section at University of Pennsylvania where she researched identifiable risk factors in children and adolescents for development of mental health disorders. Through her research with Penn, and from working closely with the participants and their families, Emily recognized the value of implementing knowledge gained from such research into the clinical setting in order to assist those undergoing the stressors of daily life and struggling from various mental health disorders.
Emily’s research experience and desire to focus on her career as a clinician led her to pursue her education at Drexel University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Emily continued her nursing career, working with children, adolescents and adults in inpatient psychiatric settings, as well as residential long-term care facilities. Emily later returned to Drexel University and graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing.
